The word “philanthropy” is derived from the Greek word “philanthropia” with the prefix “philo” meaning love, and the suffix “anthropy” meaning humankind. Philanthropy, much like membership, brings us together and connects us all.
I work on PEM’s membership programs. In this role I have the daily privilege of seeing how our members enjoy being part of the PEM community. Our members support PEM’s impactful programs every year because they can see the difference their giving makes.
For example, while $100 allows us to host one of our PEM Pals programs with storytelling, music and art making for children under age five, $500 supports a workshop for 200 students to explore different art forms, materials and techniques in the museum’s Create Space. A gift of $1,000 provides sketchbooks for nearly 1,000 students in low-resource schools to reflect on their museum visits.
Statistics are one thing but really seeing PEM’s mission in action is another thing entirely. We recently created this video to capture the direct impact PEM has on the lives of school children across the region…take a look for yourself:
November 29th is Giving Tuesday, a national day aimed at focusing our efforts on the act of giving. We’re excited to be part of this national effort here at PEM! We hope that you will consider giving a gift to the PEM Annual Fund on November 29th and be part of this national movement uniting us around the importance of philanthropy.
A gift to the PEM Annual Fund supports the innovative programs enjoyed by each member of the PEM family. From student programs, to the mind-expanding special exhibitions, PEM’s unique offerings are strengthened by your support. Your giving makes such a difference, and Giving Tuesday is a reminder that our greatest work is often done collaboratively– a statement I find to be true time and again through my work at PEM.
Come and join us on Tuesday, November 29 from 1 – 5 pm in the PEM Atrium for coffee, cookies and conversation. We’ll be there and look forward to connecting with you in thoughtful conversation on the future of PEM.
If you cannot make it to PEM that day, it’s easy to give online right HERE. Help us get the word out about Giving Tuesday as well by spreading the word through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #GivingTuesday.
Thanks so much, and hope to see you on November 29!
